We’ll leave bright and early to drive to the south of the state of Quintana Roo to visit the archaeological site of Ichkabal. This site opened to the public in 2025 and was only very recently explored and studied by archaeologists.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore one of the most ancient sites with temples higher than the ones in Chichén Itzá. Take advantage of the fact you are still allowed to climb some of them and admire the celestial jungle views from the top of the pyramids.
The mere vision of the jungle and its wildlife will capture your attention. So keep an eye out for crocodiles, toucans, foxes, and other animals.
We’ll stop for lunch in a local restaurant in the nearby town of Bacalar. We recommend trying the fish tacos or the shrimp tacos (or a combo of both ????).
The cherry on top is a tour of the “lagoon of the 7 colours”, where a hobie cat will sail along the major landmarks such as the isle of birds, the black cenote and the so-called “playita”. Enjoy this spectacular lagoon and take a moment to relax surrounded by nature and the breathtaking views.
Attention! The use of any type of lotions (including sunscreen) is strictly forbidden in the lagoon of Bacalar. We recommend bringing sun protection such as a long sleeved shirt (rashguard style), big hat, long trousers.
